Learn how to make delicious Sloppy Joe Casserole. Easy recipe with step-by-step instructions.

  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

Scale

  • 1 pound ground beef (or substitute with ground turkey for a lighter version)
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon mustard powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 package (about 8 ounces) refrigerated biscuit dough

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F. This is the step where I usually put on some music to set a relaxed mood in the kitchen.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef along with the diced onion, green bell pepper, and minced garlic. Cook until the beef is no longer pink and the vegetables are tender, about 7-10 minutes.
  3. Drain any excess fat from the skillet, then stir in the tomato sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, mustard powder, salt, and black pepper. Let the mixture simmer for about 5 minutes to meld the flavors.
  4. Transfer the beef mixture into a 9×13-inch baking dish, spreading it evenly. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese on top.
  5. Arrange the biscuit dough pieces over the cheese, making sure to cover as much of the surface as possible.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown and cooked through. This is when the house starts to smell like a memory being made.
  7. Let the casserole cool for a few minutes before serving. Trust me, the wait is worth it!
