Learn how to make delicious Garlic Butter Parmesan Dinner Rolls. Easy recipe with step-by-step instructions.

  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

Scale

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet active dry yeast (about 2 1/4 teaspoons)
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 3/4 cup warm water (about 110°F)
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)

Feel free to swap out the Parmesan for another hard cheese you love or adjust the garlic to taste. If you’re a fan of herbs, consider adding a pinch of rosemary or thyme for an extra layer of flavor!

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for about 5 minutes, or until it becomes foamy. This step always reminds me of my dad’s seafood boils, where patience was key to perfecting the flavors.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, and salt. Create a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture and melted butter.
  3. Mix the ingredients together until a dough begins to form. Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes, or until it becomes smooth and elastic. Kneading dough has always been a therapeutic process for me—similar to jotting down recipe ideas in my trusty notebook.
  4. Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.
  5. Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release the air. Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces and shape them into balls. Place the dough balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  6. Cover the rolls with a cloth and let them rise again for about 30 minutes. Meanwhile, preheat your oven to 375°F.
  7. Bake the rolls in the preheated oven for 15-18 minutes, or until they are golden brown. The smell that fills your kitchen will remind you of the comforting aromas of a bustling Southern kitchen.
  8. Remove the rolls from the oven and brush them with additional melted butter. Sprinkle with fresh parsley if desired. Serve warm and enjoy!
