Ingredients
Here’s a list of the ingredients you’ll need to create this comforting dish. Feel free to make substitutions where necessary, as I often do when experimenting with new flavors.
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 bag (16 oz) frozen crispy onion rings
Substitution suggestions: If you’re looking to lighten things up, you can use ground turkey instead of beef, and Greek yogurt instead of sour cream.
Instructions
Follow these simple steps to bring this crowd-pleaser to life. Remember, cooking should be fun and forgiving, much like the messy but memorable meals from my childhood.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned. Drain excess fat.
- Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the skillet, and sauté until the onion is translucent.
- In a large bowl, combine the cooked beef mixture, cream of mushroom soup, sour cream, cheddar cheese, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
- Spread the mixture evenly in a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Top the casserole with a single layer of frozen crispy onion rings.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the onion rings are golden brown and crispy.
- Let it cool for a few minutes before serving, allowing the flavors to meld together.
