Ingredients
- 1 loaf of sourdough bread (or your favorite crusty loaf)
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional for a bit of heat)
Feel free to substitute the cheeses with whatever you have on hand, or add a bit of Parmesan for extra flavor. You can also use garlic powder if you’re out of fresh garlic, though fresh really brings out the best taste.
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup.
- Using a sharp bread knife, make cuts in the bread loaf about 1 inch apart, creating a grid pattern. Be careful not to cut all the way through to the bottom of the loaf.
- In a small bowl, combine the melted butter, minced garlic, parsley, Italian seasoning, salt, and red pepper flakes.
- Gently pull apart the bread sections and drizzle the garlic butter mixture into the cuts. Use a pastry brush if necessary to distribute evenly.
- Stuff the shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheeses into the cuts of the bread, making sure to get a good amount in each section.
- Wrap the loaf in aluminum foil and place it on the prepared baking sheet. Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes.
- Unwrap the loaf and bake for an additional 10 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving, allowing the flavors to meld together beautifully.
I’ve learned that the key to this recipe is not rushing through it—let each step be a moment to savor. It’s a bit like life; the best parts often come from slowing down and appreciating the process.
