Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 3/4 cup whole milk
- 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley (optional)
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup melted butter (for brushing)
If you’re out of cheddar cheese, feel free to experiment with different kinds like mozzarella or pepper jack for a little kick. And if fresh parsley isn’t on hand, dried herbs work just fine in a pinch.
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 425°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and garlic powder.
- Using a pastry cutter or your fingertips, cut the cold butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
- Gently fold in the shredded cheddar cheese.
- Pour in the milk and stir until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; the dough should be slightly sticky.
- Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead gently 3-4 times until it comes together.
- Roll out the dough to about 1/2-inch thickness and cut using a biscuit cutter or a glass.
- Place the biscuits on the prepared baking sheet, about an inch apart.
- In a small bowl, mix the melted butter with the minced garlic and brush the tops of the biscuits generously.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown.
- Once out of the oven, brush with more garlic butter and sprinkle with chopped parsley if desired.
These steps are simple enough to follow, even if you’ve had a long day. Remember, it’s all about enjoying the process, not just the result.
